Reading a click heatmap: what the colors mean

< 1 min read

A click heatmap uses color to show click density. This article explains how to read it.

What the colors mean #

  • Red / warm – the most-clicked areas.
  • Green / yellow – moderate click activity.
  • Blue / cool – the least-clicked areas.
Click heatmap color intensity on the demo header navigation, where the Shop menu item shows the hottest red-yellow click zone

How to use it #

  1. Check that your primary calls to action fall in warm zones.
  2. Look for clicks on non-clickable elements – a sign of visitor confusion.
  3. Compare desktop and mobile views for layout differences.

Expected result #

You can tell at a glance which page elements attract clicks and which are ignored.

FAQ #
