Friction events: rage clicks and dead clicks

Friction events reveal frustration that no error log shows. The Friction Events tab surfaces where visitors click in vain or repeatedly.

The friction types #

  • Rage Click — rapid repeated clicks on the same spot, signalling frustration.
  • Dead Click — a click that does nothing, suggesting a broken or non-interactive element.
  • Error Click — a click associated with a JavaScript error.
  • Thrashed Cursor — erratic, back-and-forth cursor movement indicating confusion.

Steps #

  1. Go to Opti-Behavior → Errors Tracking → Friction Events.
  2. Filter by type. Each row shows the Type, Target / Area, Page, and Clicks / Signal.
  3. Open an event and use the linked recording to watch the friction happen.

Expected result #

You can name the exact element causing frustration and confirm it in a recording.

FAQ #

What is the difference between a rage click and a dead click? #

A rage click is many fast clicks (frustration); a dead click is a click that produces no response.
