Privacy masking and session encryption

Session Recordings are designed to be privacy-safe. This article explains the two protections that keep sensitive visitor data out of your recordings.

Requirements #

  • Plan: Opti-Behavior Pro

1. Masking at capture time #

The recorder masks input contents in the browser before anything is sent to your server. What visitors type into form fields — including passwords, emails, and payment fields — is replaced, so raw values are never transmitted or stored. The replay shows that a field was used, not its contents.

2. Encryption at rest #

Recording payloads are stored encrypted on your server through Hybrid Storage. Recordings never leave your infrastructure; nothing is sent to OptiUser or any third party.

How this fits GDPR #

Because field values are never captured and IP handling follows your privacy mode, recordings can be used under a compliant setup. See the GDPR compliance guide and Anonymous Mode vs Full Tracking.

Expected result #

Every replay masks sensitive input, and stored recording files are encrypted on disk.

FAQ #

Can I unmask fields to see what was typed? #

No. Masking happens before capture, so the original values do not exist in the recording.
