Opti-Behavior can identify sessions and returning visitors without cookies and without storing raw IP addresses. This article explains how. Related settings are on the Privacy & GDPR tab.
Cookieless identification #
Instead of setting tracking cookies, Opti-Behavior derives a non-personal identifier for each visitor. This lets it separate new from returning visitors while avoiding cookie consent friction.
IP anonymization #
In Anonymous Mode, raw IP addresses are not stored. Opti-Behavior uses a non-personal daily hash so that visitors cannot be re-identified from stored data.
How to enable #
- Go to WP Admin → Opti-Behavior → Settings → Privacy & GDPR.
- Select Anonymous Mode.
- Click Save Changes.
Expected result #
Reports still distinguish new and returning visitors, but no raw IP or cookie-based identifier is stored.
FAQ #
How are returning visitors detected without cookies? #
Through a non-personal derived identifier rather than a stored cookie.
Does anonymization reduce report quality? #
Core metrics remain available; only personal identifiers are removed.
