If a recording will not play or sessions are missing, work through this checklist.

Recording not playing #
- Reopen the player. Close and click Play again to rebuild the replay.
- Check storage type. The player debug info shows the storage source; a missing file means the recording was cleaned up or the file is orphaned.
- Browser console. A JavaScript error on the admin page can stop rrweb from rendering — disable conflicting admin scripts.
Missing sessions #
- Recordings disabled or off during the visit. Confirm the toggle in Session Recordings settings.
- Visitor filtered as bot or spam. Bot and spam sessions may be excluded; check traffic classification.
- Consent not given. In Full Tracking with a consent banner, recording waits for consent.
- Retention or cleanup removed them. Check the Retention Period and cleanup history in the Danger Zone.
- Cache serving stale pages. Ensure the tracking script runs; see the cache guidance.
Blank or short replay #
- Sessions shorter than the recorder threshold may store little data.
- Heavy custom JS can block DOM capture on some pages.
Expected result #
After resolving the cause, new sessions record and existing recordings replay correctly.
FAQ #
Why do I have no recordings at all? #
Most often recordings are still disabled, or every test visit came from an excluded admin account.
